Two new chairs in computer science

The Department of Computer Science is delighted to announce the appointment of two new professors, as a result of significant investment by the Faculties of Medicine and Health and Engineering.

Neil Lawrence and Magnus Rattray, both currently of the University of Manchester, will be joining the department on 1st September.

The posts will be funded by the Faculty of Medicine and Health and, initially, the Faculty of Engineering's strategic fund, and marks the start of an exciting collaboration between the Department of Computer Science and the SITraN - The Sheffield Institute for Translational Neuroscience.

Professor Lawrence and Professor Rattray bring extensive experience in both machine learning and bioinformatics, and will contribute to the Department's world-class work on machine learning as well the application of such techniques in neuroscience.
