| This miniature public exhibition showcases research concerning how people inhabit space. Photographs will be displayed in a glazed cabinet in a shop window on the Moor. This mode of display reflects on the idea of the eighteenth century Cabinet of Curiosities, which was associated with collecting, curiosity and the desire to bring diverse knowledge into a single compact space. The cabinet and its contents also invite viewers to think about the collections and displays that many of us have in our homes today.

| Take part in a reconstruction of an Iron Age smelting furnace used to produce iron. This form of iron production has a long history being the method used from the discovery of iron until the post-medieval period when blast furnace technology eclipsed traditional bloomer smelting. This will be the first bloomer furnace to operate in Sheffield for at least five centuries and will be accompanied by a display and poetry performance which looks at how technological innovations have been incorporated into our understandings of the world. Please note that this is an outdoor event.

| Scripted from his letters and diaries, this concert and narrative chronicles the romantic life of one of the greatest and most treasured composers for solo piano – Frédéric Chopin. The narrative follows his turbulent relationship with the controversial literary figure George Sand, their time together in Majorca, his fragile health and his ultimate demise in poverty in Paris at the age of 39. The readings are interspersed with some of his most loved and poignant compositions, performed by one of Britain’s finest pianists, Lucy Parham. Nocturne will receive its premiere at the University of Sheffield before its London premiere at the Wigmore Hall in July 2010.
