Irantzu is a Marie Curie Early Stage Training Fellow studying for a PhD within the Catchment Science Centre. Based in the Department of Geography, Irantzu is part of the CatSci group working on the integrated study of the River Don catchment.

Irantzu studied for a BSc Honours degree in Earth Sciences at the University of Glasgow. Her honours project looked at uplifted rivers on the East Coast of Scotland and examined the relationship between rates of knickpoint recession and catchment area.

Having completed her BSc, Irantzu worked as a Science Journalist for the popular science magazine Elhuyar Zientzia eta Teknika.

Irantzu then returned to university where she studied for an MSc in International Environmental Sciences at the University of Lund, Sweden. Her master´s thesis examined the effects of forest management practices on soil conditions in Pinus radiata plantations in the Basque Country. After graduating Irantzu stayed at the University of Lund to work as a tutor on a systems analysis course for international masters students.

Irantzu´s principle research interests are the relationships between geomorphology, land use and habitats at the catchment scale
