About Skills for Life

The Sheffield Graduate Award is supported by Skills for Life (SFL) and applicants are able to include SFL workshops within their application.

We believe that university is not only a place to succeed academically but is also a great place to develop valuable life skills.

Skills for Life workshops are designed to help integrate healthy ways of living into your personal, professional and academic life. The workshops support students in several key areas:

Workshops run during term time as well as the summer vacation. If you are interested in incorporating SFL workshops in your Sheffield Graduate Award application this year you will find us under the Cultural and Social Awareness category.

Please note that SFL groups do not contribute towards the Sheffield Graduate Award.

Guidelines

To contribute towards the award you are required to attend 4 workshops. Please note that 'Relaxation for All' only counts once towards the award despite the number of times you attend this session.

Once you have decided on which workshops you would like to attend please follow the booking/registration instructions detailed on our webpages. (Some workshops require you to complete a booking form by a specified deadline whilst others operate on a drop-in basis.) Places are limited and are offered on a first come, first served basis. Please note booking forms will be available 4-6 weeks before a workshop.

Please complete a Personal and Professional Skills Development form for each workshop that you attend. (See Personal and Professional Skills Development form in the download section). This will help you to reflect on the areas of personal and professional development you would like to work on.

Rules of Attendance:

When you have completed 4 workshops please arrange an appointment with the SFL coordinator by contacting our reception on the SFL Client Support Assistant on 222 4095 or emailing skillsforlife@sheffield.ac.uk . This review appointment will last about 20 minutes and offers you the opportunity to talk through your experience of the workshops. If you have successfully followed the rules of attendance you will be given written confirmation of your attendance at the workshops. You will not be given a certificate of attendance if you fail to fulfil the rules of attendance outlined above.
