BEng or MEng?
|
All of the MEng courses require four years of study. Only the course in Civil Engineering is offered either to the level of MEng or as a BEng(Hons), completed in three years. The quickest and easiest way to become a Chartered Engineer (CEng) is to obtain an MEng degree followed by a period of Initial Professional Development undertaken as a graduate engineer working in industry. To gain chartered status after a BEng degree you will have to complete a period of further learning, which could be a full-time postgraduate course or part-time study while you are working. Which route? We find that the majority of our students wish to complete their education to MEng level so that they are eligible to immediately pursue the necessary structured on-the-job training to become a Chartered Engineer. However, there are also good reasons why you may prefer to register for the BEng course. For instance, a three-year commitment may comply more readily with your career plans or personal development. Whether you choose MEng or BEng you have the option to switch until the end of the second year. In some cases, depending on the options chosen in semester one, a transfer between the other specialist MEng courses may also be possible in your first year. More informationThe Institution of Civil Engineers and the Institution of Structural Engineers provide details about alternative routes to becoming a Chartered Engineer. |
