Lattice Gas and Lattice Boltzmann Simulation of Reactive Flows in Porous Media
Reactions between groundwater-transported chemical species in highly tortuous pore networks are complex processes that depend on (amongst other things) the particular morphology of the void system.
I am using lattice-gas cellular automata and lattice Boltzmann models to provide a discrete numerical idealisation of fluid flow, hydrodynamic dispersion and reaction to try to identify a meaningful measure of the mixing potential based on the void morphology. At present it is not even clear just what the appropriate tensorial form (and how to determine it) for an effective macroscopic measure should be.
