Wireless and Data Mining Technologies for Structural Health Monitoring of Civil Infrastructure

Nicky de Battista was born in Malta. He graduated from the University of Malta in 2002 with a Bachelors degree in Architecture and Civil Engineering. Between 2002 and 2008 he worked in Malta for private design and consultancy companies as a Structural Engineer. In 2009 he graduated from the University of Sheffield with a Masters degree in Structural Engineering. He joined the Vibration Engineering Section immediately after to carry out research for a PhD, entitled "Wireless and Data Mining Technologies for Structural Health Monitoring of Civil Infrastructure". His research is fully funded by the A*Star (Agency for Science, Technology and Research – Singapore) – University of Sheffield Research Agreement for 4 years. From October 2010 to September 2012 Nicky will be based in Singapore with I2R (Institute for Infocomm Research, A*Star). Nicky's project focuses on embedding data processing algorithms within wireless smart sensor nodes and deploying these sensor nodes to carry out wireless structural health monitoring (SHM) of civil structures.
