Structural Engineering Course Overview

This Postgraduate structural engineering course is our most general course, and it will allow you to develop skills in analysis and design of steel and concrete structures. A range of optional modules and a wide choice of dissertation topics give you the chance to tailor the course to your specific interests and needs. The course is ideally suited to practising structural engineers, but it will be equally useful to recent graduates planning a career in structural engineering.

MSc/Diploma/Certificate in Structural Engineering Entry requirements

Minimum 2:1 UK Honours degree (BEng, MEng, BSc) or better with equivalent high grades in relevant subjects related to our course or an equivalent international degree qualification in Civil/Structural Engineering or other appropriate engineering/science discipline. We will consider applicants offering appropriate professional qualifications and experience, in this case we require a strong background and recent employment experience in areas covered in the chosen course.

Our Departmental standard English requirement is IELTS 6.5 (with no marks less than 6.0 in each component) or equivalent. Please visit the University of Sheffield English Language Teaching Centre for further information regarding language support.

Teaching

Lectures by staff members and engineers from industry, laboratory work, site visits, design projects.

Assessment

Formal examinations, coursework, dissertation with an oral examination.
