Entry requirements

Academic qualifications and professional experience

You will need a good undergraduate honours degree (2:2 or better) in a relevant science, geoscience, engineering or management subject. Example subject areas include (but are not limited to) earth science, geology, geography, chemistry, physics, environmental science, biology, environmental biology, environmental management, mathematics, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, water engineering, environmental engineering, chemical engineering. If your first degree subject area or academic and professional background falls outside these subject areas, or you are unsure of your suitability for these courses, contact the Programme Director, Dr Steven Thornton for advice.

For all these courses, we will consider your application if you have appropriate professional qualifications and work experience, but you will need a strong background in the areas covered in your chosen course. For example, this would be at least two years employment in environmental science, engineering or management in industry, a regulatory body, research organisation, consultancy or local authority.

English language requirements

Our Departmental standard English requirement is IELTS 6.5 (with no marks less than 6.0 in each component) or equivalent.
