Limitations of the Wireless Network

Due to the 'wireless' nature of the wireless network there are limitations it can help to be aware of. These are minimized as much as possible but can still affect you.

Security

Measures are taken to ensure that our wireless network is as secure as it can be but it will not be as secure as a wired connection. To sign into any secure site (bank etc), where the loss of your information would be a significant problem, we recommend that a wired connection is used to ensure maximum levels of security.

Signal Fluctuations

The wireless signal is transmitted between an access point and your computer. This signal can be affected by barriers such as walls, doors, people etc. If you are affected it may help to move and try again from another location.

Location

The Wireless Network is not available across the entire campus. You may receive a signal outside of intended areas but it is more likely to be unrealiable or fluctuate. Please see the list of locations to see where wireless is available.
