Information for Departmental Technicians

CiCS is piloting the use of the Windows 7 Novell client and iPrint client to access networked filestore and printers.

If the process is successful amongst departmental technicians we will develop instructions and support for general staff and students, who are currently being directed to more cautious advice.

The instructions below apply to the 32-bit version of Windows 7 running on the Professional, Enterprise and Ultimate versions of Windows 7.

Installing the Novell Client

  1. Use the following link to apply the CIFS registry tweak. In Firefox you will need to save the file and then run it.

  1. Use the following link to save the batch file to your computer. Do not run the file yet.

  1. Click the following link to install the MS hotfix patch for 32-bit Windows 7. In Firefox you will need to save the file and then run it. (For 64-bit Windows 7 see the right-hand link)

  1. Switch off and restart your PC.
  1. When your PC has restarted, locate the w7up.bat batch file that you downloaded in step 2, right-click it and select Run as Administrator. For settings and troubleshooting see the linked document below.

Installing the iPrint Client

To install the iPrint client use the link below, or for 64-bit Windows 7 use the link in the right-hand box.
