Microsoft Windows 7

Windows 7 is the new operating system for PCs. CiCS is investigating the issues around supporting Windows 7 and this page is a summary of our current advice.

Buying Windows 7

Windows 7 can be purchased from CiCS by Departments, staff and students.

Using Windows 7 with CiCS Services

We are working to ensure that the services provided by CiCS are compatible with Windows 7.

Windows 7 Security

CiCS recommends Microsoft Forefront for University owned PCs and Microsoft Security Essentials for personally owned PCs.

Software Compatibility

Windows 7 is natively compatible with most Windows Vista applications. For applications that are only compatible with Windows XP Microsoft recommends "Windows Virtual PC"
