Frequently Asked Questions

My Webmail store is over-quota and I cannot delete messages.

When you delete email from your Webmail account, you do not actually remove the file from the server to release space in your mailstore until you have Purged Deleted Messages.

1. Open Webmail and click on the Options button.

2. Click on Deleting and Moving Messages

3. Untick the box next to When deleting messages, move them to your Trash folder instead of marking them as deleted

4. Click Save Options

5. Go back to the folders and delete all messages you wish to remove...

... make sure you look in ALL your folders including Inbox, Sent Items and Trash.

6. Having deleted the messages, click Purge Deleted to release space in your mailstore.

Please be aware that once purged, emails cannot be recovered.

How do I read email written in non-European languages in Webmail?

1. Open the mail message in Webmail as normal.

2. From the View menu choose the Encoding option.

A pop-up menu will be displayed. If the encoding scheme you require is available on the list, select the encoding scheme you need.

3. If the encoding scheme you require is not available, click on more from the menu and a further list will appear showing all the possible encoding schemes. Select the one you require from the list.

4. Your email will now be displayed in the language of your choice.

Please note that for some languages, eg Chinese, there are a variety of different encoding schemes. The correct scheme depends on the encoding used by the sender of the email. It is suggested you try different schemes until you find the correct one.

How do I set up an automatic message to tell email correspondents I am away?

You should use the Central Vacation Message facility - a link to this is given at the top of the page.
