Student Equipment Support Service
Drop-in technical support for students is available at the Information Desk on Level 1 of the IC during staffed hours. We can help with the following problems:
- Problems using University IT services
- Problems using software
- Reinstalling corrupt computer operating systems
- Removing viruses and malware
- Replacing some consumer-accessible parts on your laptop
Please note: In the case of PGR students, desktop machines can be arranged to be collected and delivered back to the Department by contacting the help-desk, or taken by the student to the Computing Centre on Hounsfield Road. Portable equipment however should be taken to the Information desk in the IC.
We are not able to provide replacement parts nor can we perform repairs that require extensive dismantling of your computer.
We are able to resolve many problems on the spot, but for more complex problems we may need to refer your query to one of our specialist teams.
- For complex IT service or software problems we will take you details and pass your query on to an expert who will get in touch with you in due course
- For complex hardware problems we will issue a receipt for your computer, which we will then pass to our technicians. You will be contacted when the work is complete and you can collect it back from the Information Desk in the IC. You will need to present your receipt.
Extended IT support at the Information Desk is only available to students. The staff IT support service is based in the Computing Centre and operates 9-5pm Monday-Friday.
