Description of Service
The University web site and associated technical components (main web site , Content Management System, MUSE, cPanel).
Client Groups/Eligibility for Services
The site is generally available, except those areas that are password protected or restricted by IP address to registered University of Sheffield users.
Departments, research groups or projects may appoint a Web Provider to set up their web pages.
Provider Responsibility
- To provide, maintain and support the hardware and software supporting the University's web site.
- To support the University's developments in delivering teaching over the web and to give advice to course providers on packages agreed by the Learning and Teaching Committee (see also SLA: Central Online Learning Provision (MOLE)).
- To provide support for the Library in delivering resources electronically.
- To maintain and develop the Content Management System.
- To provide space for Web Providers to set up their own web pages; the amount of space can be extended by arrangement.
- To liase with SRAM on standards and style for University web pages.
- To deliver and, in some instances, maintain agreed sets of information on the University's web site.
- To develop web pages in response to requests by arrangement.
- To provide Guidelines and Regulations for Web Providers.
- To provide the support for real-time activities over the web (e.g. webcams, quicktime and realaudio broadcasts).
User Responsibility
- To comply with Guidelines and Regulations for Web Providers.
- To notify CiCS of any changes to Web Provider details.
- To keep information up to date and accurate.
Guidelines and Regulations for Web providers
Availability of Service
The site is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Services are available during core service hours.
There is a limited failover service for www.shef.ac.uk.
There is no explicit failover service for portal.shef.ac.uk although the system is clustered.
There is no failover service for cPanel or Polopoly CMS at present.

Usage logs.
Backup logs.
Records of jobs.
Helpdesk records.
Service Measures
Faults will be investigated within 2 working hours of contacting the HelpDesk during core service hours.
Percentage up-time for www.shef.ac.uk of 99.8%.
Dependencies
AV Services and/or Learning and Development Media Unit for broadcasts, etc.
SRAM for content of CMS-managed outward-facing web pages.
Feedback and Monitoring
CICS User Group.
Staff survey.
Student services survey.

Exclusions
Commercial activity, and other activity restricted by the JANET acceptable use policy.
Individual student personal accounts are administered by the Students´ Union.
Location of Service
- Application Support in Technical Services.
Charges
Design and development of non-core web pages:
- Initial design and implementation, up to 5 working days - £1,000.
- Any additional work - £25 per hour.
- Additional features e.g. use of sound and video, which may incur extra costs.
Failure Response
Faults will be investigated within 2 working hours of contacting the HelpDesk during core service hours.
