Description of Service

Management Information (MI).

Client Groups/Eligibility for Services

All staff and official agencies.

Provider Responsibility

  1. On behalf of the University, to compile and deliver within the prescribed timescales those parts of the University's statutory returns which have been agreed to be CiCS responsibility.
  2. To implement, develop, maintain and support the University Data Library (UDL).
  3. To make pre-agreed sets of MI available for the University's planning cycle within the agreed timetable. This sometimes requires liaison with other administrative departments and external agencies or organisations.
  4. To respond to ad-hoc requests for MI in a timescale agreed at the time the request is made.
  5. Where appropriate, to assist in the presentation of prepared MI.
  6. To remain aware of and anticipate university-wide requirements for MI, and to seek to make standard information generally available to users electronically.

User Responsibility

  1. To allow adequate time for information to be compiled when making ad-hoc requests.
  2. To ensure that a request for MI is specified correctly.

Availability of Service

During core service hours.

Service Statistics/Outputs

Records of MI requests.
Submission times for statutory returns.
Validation reports from external bodies for statutory returns.

Service Measures

100% of statutory returns will be submitted by the agreed time.

Dependencies

Support and assistance from other departments, agencies and organisations in correcting and supplying accurate data.

Feedback and Monitoring

Statutory returns are cross-checked and audited by the requesting bodies - HESA, HEFCE, TTA etc. The outcome is reported to the University.
Checks made by internal departments e.g. Teaching Quality statistics.
Checks made before signing off by senior members of the administration e.g. for HESES.

Benchmarking

Through interaction with outside professional agencies and colleagues in other HEIs.

Exclusions

MI based on financial data.

Where re-calculation of pre-agreed sets of data is requested, the turn-round time will be negotiated on an individual basis.
