Drama Studio
Description of Service
A first class venue and associated facilities for the preparation and presentation of a diverse range of theatrical performances; to enable users to realise their production aspirations, and to ensure specific personnel are competent to perform the tasks they wish to undertake.
Client Groups/Eligibility for Services
Any staff, student or local community-based group or individual may request to book the Drama Studio and its facilities for either academic or recreational performances.
Provider Responsibility
- To maintain the Drama Studio's reputation as a first class venue.
- To implement and operate a booking procedure for the theatre and its facilities and schedule an annual programme from the requests received.
- To supply all user groups with a copy of the Drama Studio's Conditions of Hire, Code of Practice for Health and Safety and venue welcome pack.
- To maintain the fabric and systems of the theatre and its facilities in accordance with all relevant Health and Safety and licensing legislation.
- To assess, through discussion with a hirer, the technical requirements for the production and identify any problems or shortfalls with their plans and personnel.
- To advise on and offer solutions to any matters identified above.
- To ensure appropriately trained staff are available to supervise all activities within the theatre and implement training where necessary.
- To prepare and distribute a seasonal poster and leaflet of events and to prepare and display a weekly current show poster at the front of the theatre.
- To prepare, annually, schedules of charges for both University and external users.
- To invoice groups for their use of the theatre and its facilities and to collect any moneys in accordance with the University's Financial Directives.
User Responsibility
- To provide the Drama Studio with such information as is requested to fulfil the booking procedure.
- To pay promptly any booking fees requested as part of the booking procedure.
- To indemnify the University of their actions whilst using the theatre.
- To act at all times in accordance with the Drama Studio's Conditions of Hire, Code of Practice for Health and Safety and any other reasonable request made at the time of booking.
- To appoint a suitable person to liaise with the Drama Studio on technical matters.
- To make prior contact with the Drama Studio to enable an assessment of the technical requirements to be made.
- To have gathered enough production information for the assessment to be valid.
- To have carried out, as far as reasonably possible, the user's own assessment.
- To provide the personnel for training in the areas identified.
- To use the facilities and any equipment provided in a manner that will not endanger anyone's health and safety.
- To report immediately and stop using any equipment supplied that proves to be faulty.
- To provide such information as is requested for the production of the Drama Studio's publicity material.
- To remove all production materials brought into the theatre at the end of the booked period.
- To advise at the earliest opportunity of cancellation of a booking.
- To pay promptly on receipt of an invoice or at the time of booking, any hire charges for the Drama Studio and its facilities.
Availability of Service
The Drama Studio is available for hire from mid September to mid July with the exception of Christmas, the week to New Year and Easter. It is licensed for performances between 11am and 11pm on each day of the week.
The facilities may be booked for use between 9:00am and 11:00pm, Sunday to Saturday.
Technical support and training is available during normal office opening times; only in exceptional circumstances can arrangements be made outside these times.
The office is open to make bookings from 9:30am to 6:00pm Monday to Friday.
