Working from Home or Off-Campus

CiCS offers a suite of systems and applications that makes it easy for University members to work away from the University. This makes effective working from home a reality. There is also a link to information outlining how you can connect to the internet in different situations.

MUSE

MUSE collects together many web-based applications.

Email

You can access your email using the web interface or via email software such as Thunderbird.

Security

You should ensure you home computer is secure, and you should understand the policy regarding University data held off-campus.

VPN

Some applications such as SAP require an additional VPN (virtual private network) connection before you can access them from off campus.

Printing from Home

From your home computer you can print to staff and student printers at the University.

Calendar 

You can manage your calendar from home via MUSE.

myFilestore

myFilestore is available in MUSE, and gives you access to your personal filestore and your department's shared drive.

myChat

You can chat to colleagues using Google Talk.

Phones and Voicemail

You can phone University extension numbers (beginning with 2) from Sheffield by prefixing 22 - so 21111 becomes 222 1111. From outside of Sheffield prefix 0114 22. To access your voicemail, phone (0114) 222 2020
