Common Timetabling

Aims

Looking at improving the Timetabling processes, through leveraging the capabilities of the CMIS software, and streamlining the timetable processes..

Overview

Currently there is considerable duplication of effort where Departments create their timetables locally, then make requests for room bookings centrally, and finally they will often transpose the allocated room information back into local systems. There are therefore considerable time savings to be made by making fuller use of the Facility CMIS software, moving away from a process of room bookings towards timetabling
Pilot areas will be timetabling at Faculty level, and using the CMIS software to produce a clash free timetable for staff and students, together with personal student timetables, and attendance registers.
Non pilot departments will be encouraged to increase their use of the CMIS software during this academic year, together with using the facility to hold module-group information which will enable attendance registers for small groups to be produced. (linked to the Student Attendance Monitoring project)
The project will also recommend how timetabling can be administered going forward.
