12th November - Service Level Agreements

CiCS services are assessed against service level agreements on a twice yearly basis. The service measures page displays how we performed against each measure using a visual 'traffic lights' scheme. Performance Against Service Measures

5th November - New PDF Reader for Managed Desktop

Foxit PDF Reader will be installed on all Open Access, IC and Lecture Theatre machines and will become the default PDF reader. Adobe Reader 9 will remain on machines and can be run manually from the start menu. This change will be effective following the next restart of the workstations. Managed Desktop

29th October - New Filestore Pages

26th October - The Edge IT Centre

The Edge IT Centre has been relocated to Stephenson Hall Library. The new room contains 19 PCs, a scanner and a 4100 printer.The Edge IT Centre

21st October - Windows 7

The new operating system from Microsoft, Windows 7, is released at midnight, 22nd October. CiCS is not able to recommend the use of Windows 7, but if you choose to install it you should check out our web pages containing information and advice for Windows 7 users. Windows 7

19th October - Portobello Building

The Portobello room C28 was refurbished over the summer in conjunction with the refurbishment of the adjoining John Carr centre. The room now has a capacity of 40 machines and is equipped with new Omnino3 PCs. Portobello Building

16th October - Mappin ME04

During the upgrade of equipment, the layout of ME04 in St George's IT Centre was re-designed so it now has a capacity of 70PCs. This work was carried out in response to a request from academic staff for CiCS to have a 70 seat teaching space, in addition to Perak A04.St George's IT Centre

14th October - Pilot of CampusM App

CiCS is running a pilot of the mobile application CampusM. It will allow students to access information about upcoming events, view campus maps, and have personal up-to-date timetables.CiCS Director's blog on CampusM

13th October - Printing in a Different Building

Did you know you do not have to collect your print out from the building in which you printed it? It is perfectly easy to print in one building at the start of the day and collect from another building later on.Using Print Release Stations

1st October - uSpace for Students

CiCS is pleased to announce that uSpace is now open to students. There is now a link from MOLE to set up course specific groups. To access uSpace sign into MUSE and the link is on your start page. uSpace information

22nd September - Online Print Credit Top-Up

CiCS is investigating whether it would be possible to implement a system that let students top up their printing accounts online using a debit or credit card.Student printing

18th September - Accessing the student email service

16th September - New projects announced

Three new projects will be starting shortly: the New Portal Project will look at the options for MUSE; the VLE Review Project will look at MOLE; the CDM Rewrite Project will upgrade and reconfigure the ‘Corporate Data Model’.CiCS Projects

During freshers' week students can ask questions get help setting up their laptops at a drop-in service located in the flexi-space in the IC.CiCS help and support

11th September - Improvements to Student Computer Rooms

Portobello Room and John Carr Centre are being refurbished. The Edge will been replaced by a superior facility in Stephenson. St George's IT Centre is open till midnight.Student Computer Rooms

9th September - CiCS Helpdesk Self Service
