Connecting to the University Network
Using a Cable
First of all, ensure that there is a network socket nearby and that you have a network lead of the required length. If there is no free network socket nearby, you may need an 8-port switch which allows several computers to connect to one wall socket. These can be obtained for £30 by contacting Voice and Data.

Connect the Mac network socket to the wall socket (or switch socket) using the network lead, start up the Mac and lauch the web browser, eg, Safari. You should be diverted automatically to the Computer Registration page. If this does not happen, open the location:
Follow the prompts, complete this form and submit to register.
If successful, you will see a response saying so, and that you will need to wait 20 minutes. After this, restart your web browser and you should be able to use the internet.
If you want to see which Macs (or PCs) are registered in your name then you can do so from this link:-

The Mac will stay registered unless it is not used for more than 6 months or the registered keeper leaves the University.
Connecting to the Wireless Network
To connect your Mac to the wireless network, you will need to be running OSX 10.3, 10.4 or 10.5 - Panther Tiger or Leopard.
Click the Airport icon (next to your volume icon) and select Turn Airport On. Then click the Airport icon a second time and select eduroam from the list of wireless networks.
You will be prompted for your username and password.
- Enter your usual username in the Username field.
- Enter your remote access password in the Password field.
Select 'Remember password in my keychain' or 'Remember this network' if you wish, then click the Ok button.
A new dialog box labelled Verify certificate will appear. Click the Continue button.
You will connect to eduroam, and in future your computer will automatically connect when in range.
