Finding a Real PC
The kiosk service will meet your needs much of the time, but there will be occasions when you will need a PC. You can use a kiosk to discover the locations of free PCs and to reserve a PC in the Information Commons.
Campus PC Availability
The Information Commons is the most popular workspace for students. However, at busy times you will need to know where the other student PCs are. To find the locations of free PCs, you will need to install the Campus PC Availability utility.
- Click the tab that will contain Campus PC Availability
- Click the Customise Layout link
- Click an Add Channel button
- In the menu select University and click Go
- In the second menu select Campus PC Availability
- Click the Add Channel button
- Click the Back to Tab link
The utility will appear on the tab that you selected. By default, it will display the rooms that have the most PCs available, you can click the Show/Hide all rooms link to reveal PC availability in all student computing rooms.
myPC IC group room booking
The myPC utility is available from the myQuickLinks section. Double-click the link to load a new tab running the application.
Use the Location menu to specify which level you wish to work on, different levels allow you to reserve a PC for different amounts of time.
You can book a group study room from the Locations menu and a scanner from the Computer Type menu. Choose the day that you wish to reserve a PC in the When section, then click a timeslot within the calendar area to book your PC at the corresponding time.
