Setup for IMAP Client

  1. Start Eudora
  2. If this is the first time you have run Eudora, the settings menu appears with the following dialogue box (or you can get to the settings screen at any time by clicking Special and then Settings whilst in Eudora):

  1. Fill in the boxes.

    The User name is your Network username.
    You should also enter your Real Name so that it can appear in the headers of Outgoing messages.
    For Mail Server type imap.shef.ac.uk
    For SMTP Server type mailhost.shef.ac.uk
  2. Select the Checking Mail settings dialogue.

    A dialogue box similar to the following will appear:

  1. Change the Mail Protocol from POP to IMAP to use the IMAP service.
  2. You can also specify how often you want to check for new mail by checking the Check for mail every ... minutes and specifying a time.
  3. Click OK and then check your mail.

A dialogue box will prompt you for your Network password, after which your IMAP mail folders will appear.

To complete the setup of Eudora, select the SSL option from the Settings list then check the options as shown below:

In the Secure Socket Layer box:

In the Standard Port SSL Negotiation box, check:

In the Alternate Port SSL Negotiation box, check:

Please Note: Some Internet/Network Services do not allow messages to be sent using the default Port: 25

If you find this happening, you will need to change the SMTP (Outgoing) Mail Port to 465 or 587.

Depending on which version of Eudora you are using you should be able to make these changes from the Ports & Protocols (v. 6.2.1) or Sending Mail (v. 6.2.4) items from the Settings menu.
