Don't Print at All!

There are many alternatives to printing. You can communicate in many other ways. Below are a few web 2.0 media that may offer a useful alternative.

Student Learning Community

Using the social collaboration tools of web 2.0, students are being encouraged to build communities of independent learners beyond the classroom, outside the formal University structure, and into the professional workplace. Following a successful SeeChange project bid, CiCS and students will be working together in a project to explore and disseminate the use of web based collaboration tools in student learning and research. For more information please see the link on the top right.

Blogs and Wiki's

A blog is a website in which regular updates are displayed in reverse order. They are used for news, commentary and online diaries, and allow readers to leave comments in an interactive format.

A wiki is software that lets you create, edit and link web pages to form a simple but powerful online database. They are often used for collaborative and community websites.

CiCS is going to implement University blogging and wiki space very soon. In the meanwhile please follow the link on the top right for guidance on using external sites.

Social Networking

Social networking sites, such as Facebook, MySpace and bebo, allow people with similar interests to meet online, communicate and share information.

They provide a variety of ways for people to interact, including chat, messaging, email, video, voice chat, file sharing, blogging, and discussion groups.

Social networking sites are used by millions of people everyday and have revolutionised the way we communicate.

Podcasts

Podcasts are audio and video files that are distributed and updated over the internet via feed readers. Podcasts are more dynamic than simple mp3 downloads.
