Managed Desktop Service

The Managed Desktop Service is a centrally managed computing service for staff and students provided by CiCS. It provides you with a secure working environment where you can access commonly used software, such as Microsoft Office and Internet Explorer.

The service also provides access to a range of specialist teaching software, networked printers and filestore. The Managed Desktop Service is available in all CiCS managed Student Computer Rooms and Lecture Theatres. CiCS also recommends that staff should use this service on office desktop PCs and in departmental computer rooms.

General Information

To use the Managed Service log in with your username and password. General software programs can be found in the Programs menu. To access specialist applications select Load Applications menu.

Do I use the Managed Desktop Service?

The simplest way to tell if you use the Managed Desktop Service is to check your desktop (also called the background or wallpaper). Managed Desktop computers are labelled as such and should also have a version number displayed.

You can also contact the CiCS Helpdesk who will be able to tell you if you use a computer running the Managed Desktop Service.
