Equipment
Audio Visual Service's central pool of equipment has over 1500 pieces, all of which can be loaned by Departments.
We offer training to teaching staff in group and one-to-one sessions. Training can cover anything from how to use the technology within teaching spaces to how to make a podcast using the Edirol MP3/Wave recorders.

| Projection Equipment | ||
| Data projectors | A Data Projector is a device that attaches to a desktop computer, laptop, VCR or DVD and projects an image onto a screen, wall or any other flat surface to gain a larger image for big audiences. | |
| Plasma Screens | Can be used with laptops, DVD, Video or camcorders. They are ideas for presentation stands at conferences or can be used in meeting rooms, which do not have any facilities. | |
| Projection Screens | A portable, fast fold or fixed installed surface to display an projected image for the view of an audience. | |
| Visualisers | A visualiser has to be used in conjuction with either a monitor or video projector. It can be used to show live development of illustrations or small experiments from the bed of the visualiser via the colour camera. | |
| OHPs | Can be provided with or without acetate roll holders and with 250w, 400 w or metal halide lamps according to the brightness demands of the surroundings. | |
| Video Equipment | ||
| VHS Players | Will record and play on standard VHS tapes and are available in standard and long play. | |
| DVD players | Will play region 2 (European) discs only. | |
| Audio Equipment | ||
| PA Systems | Presentations to audiences of 100 plus require voice enhancement. A mixer/amplifier and two loudspeakers on stands will provide good qualityu sound reinforcment for most occasions. A four speaker version is available for presentations in larger spaces. | |
| MP3/WAVE Digital Audio Recorders | Simple battery/mains power operated recorders with built in microphones are useful for recording and playback within a small group. | |
| Cassette Players/Powered Speakers | These units have a rated output of 30 watts and playback pre-recorded tapes to larger audiences. | |
| Compact Disc (CD) Players | Playback can be achieved by connection to a PA system, which would suit larger rooms. | |
| Compact Disc (CD) Players/Powered Speaker | Delivers up to 30 Watts, high quality, no ancillary amplification required, ideal for smaller presentations. | |
| Computer/MP3 Desktop Speakers | High Quality 2.0 speaker system which are computer (both PC and MAC) and MP3 player compatible. Ideal for smaller presentations. | |
| Radio-Microphones | Tie clip and hand held microphones are available. Receiver can be connected to any suitable PA system allowing user freedom of movement. | |
| PZM/Plate Microphones | Sensitive microphones ideal for recording conversations amongst small groups. | |
| Table Microphones | Used for voice reinforcement during conferences and presentations. | |
| Conventional Microphones | Various types available for different applications. | |

| Handy Video Recorders | Simple battery/mains power operated recorders with built in high definition video camera and microphones. Can be set to record audio only. Files are transferred to a computer using the built in USB cable or SD card | |
| VHS Camcorders | Ideal for making recordings of live-action events.Use standard size cassettes. | |
| DV Camcorders | Better quality and have more features than the VHS tape. Have to edit and copy the recording to a suitable playback medium, whether that be VHS tape or DVD. | |
