Installing Microsoft Forefront
It is very easy to install Microsoft Forefront and it will even remove any alternative antivirus software you have installed. During the install process you will need to provide your username and password to verify you are a University member.
University PCs
If you use a Windows XP, Vista or 7 computer owned or leased by the University you can install Microsoft Forefront using the link below.
It is easy to follow the instructions in the installer. However, the steps are provided below. During the installation you will see several pop up warnings appear. You can ignore these and allow the installation process to run its course.
- When asked, provide your University username and password
- Save the file to your computer, locate it and double-click
- If asked whether you wish to run the file click Yes
- Click the Next button
- Click I accept at the terms and conditions page
- Select the I do not want option and click Next
- Check the option to turn on Windows firewall and click Next
- Click Remove Now to uninstall your old antivirus software
- Ensure the option to scan your computer is ticked and click Finish
CiCS Managed PCs
CiCS will continue to take care of antivirus protection on all Managed Desktop computers. If you use a Managed computer you need take no further action.
Home PCs
You are not allowed to install Microsoft Forefront on personally owned PCs and laptops. CiCS recommends that you use its sister product Microsoft Security Essentials available for free from the link below.
