Changes to the Password for the Wireless Network
You no longer need to remember a second password to connect to the wireless network.
All staff and students have two different passwords: a University password for the majority of services and a remote access password (sometimes called RATS password) for wireless connections, VPN and dial-up.
From September 2010 everyone will be able to use their University password to connect to the wireless network.
New Students and Staff
New students arriving September 2010 will need to use their University password to connect to the wireless network. They will not be able to connect to wireless using their remote access password. This also applies to new staff arriving after September 2010.
Existing Students and Staff Using Wireless
If you are a member of staff or a student who arrived before September 2010, you may continue to use your remote access password to access the wireless network.
However, if you synchronise your passwords using the link below you will be able to use your University password for the wireless network instead.
Advice about Synchronising and Changing Passwords
There are several reasons why you might synchronise your passwords, for example if you are given access to a new service or if you wish to change your password for security reasons.
However, once your passwords are changed or synchronised you will have to use your University password to access the wireless network.
After synchronising, any device that has been set up to access the wireless network will not be able to connect until you provide your University password.
Therefore, CiCS advises that you synchonise your passwords as soon as possible. You can then provide your University password on your wireless devices and avoid any confusion in the future.
Summary
- New staff and students have to use their University password to connect to the wireless network.
- Existing staff and atudents have to use their remote access passwords to connect to the wireless network until they synchronise; after which they will have to use their University password to connect to the wireless network.
