Passwords Explained

There are two types of password used to gain access to CiCS network or internet systems.

University Password

When you register for a network account you are issued with a password that will allow you to log on to the campus networked computers and gives you access to your filestore.  Many services offered by CiCS including Email, Calendar, MOLE and MUSE are accessed using this single password. Eduroam, the wireless network is also accessed by using your University password.

This password can be changed by using the Computer user Account Management facility. However you must observe the rules required by CiCS when creating a new password. See User Account Management link.

If  have difficulty accessing any of the above services for which you are registered, you should synchronise this password. See the Computer User Account Management link.

Virtual Private Network (VPN) Password

The remote access password is used to access some University computing services from off campus via a Virtual Private Network (VPN), it is normally issued at the same time that you are registered for a Network Account. You can request a new remote access password, but you cannot choose what it will be.
