Biography
I worked at Sheffield Hallam University from 1989 to 2004. For the latter part of this employment I worked as an Oracle DBA, maintaining an Oracle database used for teaching purposes. I implemented and deployed an Oracle/web application to enable students to self-serve their Oracle user accounts. I provided technical support to the staff in the IT Foundry providing Oracle professional training. I used Novell Zen Works to deploy Oracle client software throughout the University. I started working for the University of Sheffield in August 2004. Since then my main task has been to maintain the system of the (formerly) WebCT Vista virtual learning environment, (now Blackboard Vista Enterprise). This involves installing and maintaining the system software on the four node production cluster and on the two node development cluster and maintaining the production and development Oracle databases. As a member of the Database Team I assist my colleagues when required with maintenance of the other University databases. At the time of writing I am the project manager of the Secure Protocols Project
