Responsibilities
- Provide face to face IT support to people in computer rooms and the Information Commons building; support software and hardware (including some problems on students own computer equipment)
- Install, maintain and clean computer equipment in computer rooms. Check rooms regularly and respond to reported faults
- Install and maintain equipment on the Printing and Copying Management System. Monitor printers, order parts and consumables
- Library duties, including providing information and advice and assisting with photocopying, etc.
- Provide a telephone helpdesk service
- Deliver introductory IT talks and produce written documentation.
Biography
I've been at the University since 2002, when I started working in the former Education IT Centre. In this role, I mostly provided help to students regarding computers and applications, operated the printing service, and looked after nearby computer rooms. After about a year, my role changed with the introduction of the Pre-Pay Printing and Copying System, to include installing and looking after the printers and other equipment on the system. Other services were also introduced, including workshops to repair students own computers. Since April 2007 with the opening if the Information Commons building, my work now includes some duties related to books as well as computers.
