Responsibilities

CiCS has a strong commitment to project-based development, and a structured approach to managing our complex portfolio of projects and other developments - see www.shef.ac.uk/cics/projects. I head up the Programme and Project Unit whose remit is to:

Support Project Managers and provide a centre of excellence for Project Management
Manage the Development Portfolio and support the Service Strategy Board
Organise, administer and develop the department’s PPM systems
Promote portfolio, programme, project and benefits management, including training and development
Promote a coherent approach to Business Process Review and Improvement

Biography

After a varied career I got into computing in 1987. I spent nine years as a software engineer in three private sector companies, two of which folded shortly after I left. I'm not sure if this is a proud or fearsome record but in any event I felt I owed it to the University to stay. I have been here since 1997, first in software development and then from 2001 in project management. In 2007 I became head of the newly formed Programme and Project Unit.
