Biography
I have worked on most areas and many projects within the CIS area, most notable are : Many enhancements to the Student Systems for both admissions and registration areas; main support for the UCAS MARVIN system; placement support system for student nurses; conversion of Student Finance from using CODA to SAP; Student Payments system including bursaries, scholarships and other payments; HESA DLHE and the DLHE websurvey page; Admissions UDL; Students UDL; Orginal HESES extract; numerous backend tools such as the CIS su_reporting package.
I began my path into the computing industry in 1988 by a chance reading of the job section in Computing. One look at the remuneration on offer and I was soon sold on the idea of a career in this financially rewarding area plus I was also fairly interested in the subject so that was a bonus. In 1990 I completed a BTEC in Computer Studies at Wakefield District College and was faced with the choice of either finding suitable employment or choosing to move into the cosy confines of higher education while it was still free. Unsurprisingly I chose the latter and studied on the BSC (Hons) Computer Science programme at Teesside Polytechnic which by the time I graduated in 1994 had metamorphosed into the University of Teesside, which was nice.
My first place of employment was as junior analyst/programmer with the company Minerva Computer Systems PLC which was based in Cheltenham. I managed to stay there for 15 months before I decided it was too far south and I was in danger of going soft if I stayed and it was time find a suitable position somewhere further north. Which lead me to my current position here, the responsibilities of which you have probably already read.
