Responsibilities
- Contribute to the evaluation of project requests to determine their feasibility and value to the University
- Identify and document the user requirements of the commissioning project group, user group or department (the customers), recommending improvements to current processes where appropriate
- Choose the correct development strategies and undertake systems analysis in order to provide a system specification, which details the functionality that the proposed information system will provide
- Develop a detailed design specification, which most effectively implements the functionality required by the information system and which meets the customer’s needs
- Design, develop and test the computer information system to the specification agreed
- Provide support for user training and testing of the new information system, to ensure the system meets user requirements and expectations, and to highlight and resolve problems
- Implement and support the new information system, providing full technical documentation where appropriate, to ensure that users gain the maximum benefit from the system
- Oversee the work of other Analyst/Programmers as part of the project team, giving direction and instruction if necessary.
Biography
I joined the University in December 1994, and worked as the Technical Analyst in the Technical Services section of CiCS, which was then known as Management and Administrative Computing (MAC) Services. This entailed providing Oracle technical support to the development team, and also assisting our database administrator.
Previously I had undertaken degrees in Software Engineering, and Human-Computer Systems at De Montfort University, Leicester, UK. Familiarity in Oracle being gained on an ndustrial placement year during the Software Engineering degree at the European Laboratory for Particle Physics CERN, Geneva, Switzerland.
In October 1997, I transferred to the CIS Development team. Promoted to Senior Systems Analyst/Programmer October 2000.In January 2007 became responsible for Finance, HR and Payroll application development.
