Responsibilites:

Installation and Maintenance of the University's Solaris and Linux systems
Work closely with the development and application teams to design and develop systems which support the University's business and customers
Providing Solaris and Linux support to other parts of the Department and University
Areas of expertise include: Linux and Solaris Operating Systems; system design and engineering; networking and network protocols; virtualisation, including Solaris Zones and VMware, information security, including ISO27001.

Biography

I started working at Sheffield University in August 2003 after completing a degree in Computer Science at the University of Salford. Initially I was based in the network team where I was involved in the day to day management of the network and development of the wireless network, amongst other things. In January 2005 I moved to the Unix team with responsibility for maintaining the Iceberg HPC cluster. I worked there up until March 2006, when I decided to leave for pastures new and moved to Ipswich to work for Software Development company. After a couple of stints at other companies, I returned to the University in April 2010 working back in the Unix team.

In my spare time I enjoy playing bass guitar, photography and I am a keen motorcyclist.
