Postgraduate Opportunities

Welcome to the Department of Chemistry, one of the most active centres for teaching and research in Chemistry the UK. We currently offer:

Research Postgraduate Degrees: MPhil, PhD

The department typically recruits around 30-40 new PhD students each year. These projects are funded from a wide range of sources including EPSRC, BBSRC, charities and industry. The majority of these places are open to UK and EU students only. We also welcome applications form international students who are supported by scholarships from their home governments or other funding agencies.

Taught Postgraduate Degrees: MSc in Polymers for Advanced Technologies

A 12 month taught MSc course suitable for graduate chemists, physicists and chemical engineers and offering tuition in basic aspects of polymer science, and an extended research project. There will be an opportunity to specialise in one or more of the following advanced technological areas.

Entry Requirements

First or upper-second-class honours degree from an approved institution. Applicants with other qualifications are encouraged to contact the Postgraduate Research Admissions Secretary.

English Language Requirements

Our standard English requirements for overseas applicants are: IELTS 6.0 (with no less than 5 in each part), or TOEFL 550 with TWE 4.5 (paper based) or TOEFL 213, TWE 4.5 (computer based) or equivalent.
