The University of Sheffield
Centre for Gender Research

Miners' wives

The interdisciplinary Centre for Gender Research was set up in 2006 with support from the Social Science Divisional Research Fund and originally co-directed by Victoria Robinson and Georgina Waylen.

We have more than 50 members who are primarily researchers (staff and students) working in a diverse range of departments and disciplines and are interested in interdisciplinary gender research in the social sciences. Currently CGR members are drawn from more than eighteen departments in five different faculties in the University.

Since its inception the Centre has held seminars and workshops with both internal and external speakers, and networking events to facilitate information and skill sharing among members (see events and activities). A postgraduate gender research network (PGRN) has also been set up. We also have links to the recently formed WUN Gender Studies Group and the Centre for Gender Studies in Europe based at the University of Sheffield.

The Director of CGR is Dr. Victoria Robinson (Sociological Studies) and the Deputy Director is Dr. Nathalie Hammond (Sociological Studies).
