Why is Fuel Poverty Research relevant to the everyday?
With 4.7 million people in the UK living on low incomes in houses that cannot be affordably heated and predictions that anything between 3.1 million and 9.2 million households will be in fuel poverty by 2016, the need to find an effective solution to the problem of fuel poverty has never been more relevant.
What does this event offer to doctoral researchers in fuel poverty?
This event brings together doctoral researchers from across multiple disciplinary backgrounds in order to develop an understanding of the complex social impacts and effects of fuel poverty, as well as the technical implications and challenges of measuring fuel poverty. As Fuel Poverty related research grows within the UK and beyond, this symposium offers doctoral researchers the opportunity to come together to understand the current state of research in the field, develop opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration and discover new channels for promoting our outputs to academia, practitioners and policy makers.
What is the format of the event?
The morning session will feature presentations from Dr Carolyn Snell from the University of York, a leading researcher in the field, and representatives from National Energy Action, the UK's only fuel poverty charity. These presentations will focus on how academic research can inform practice and policy making.
The afternoon provides the chance for attendees to present their work to each other and offers the opportunity to discuss and develop research directions with peers. Finally, the day will conclude with an open discussion about the barriers surrounding the topic and looking to identify possible avenues for future dissemination of findings.
How much does it cost?
We are very grateful for the financial support of the Social Policy Association whose funds have made this event free for all to attend. Limited travel bursaries are available to support attendance and please mention your wish to access this fund at the time of registering.
