Biography

I am a member of the first cohort of the E-Futures DTC, which is based within the Engineering Materials department. The DTC focuses on interdisciplinary energy research, and students are introduced to a wide range of issues surrounding sustainable energy generation, management and supply. Following an initial year of taught material, I chose to concentrate on algal biofuels for my PhD topic.

Prior to joining the E-Futures DTC, I worked as an Analytical Chemist for Piramal Healthcare in Huddersfield. I worked within the Early Phase Delivery Team - a department that dealt primarily with novel chemical processes, producing Registered Pharmaceutical Intermediates, etc. for toxicity trials.

My research

Integration of biological wastewater treatment and algal growth for biofuels". The research uses established mathematical models - namely ASM3 - as well as chemical engineering principles and economic parameters to investigate the profitability of the idea. Experimental work on algal growth has been undertaken in the laboratory, to provide kinetic parameters for the algal growth model.
