Biography

In April 2011 I graduated from Santiago de Compostela University, Spain with a degree in Chemical Engineering, specialising in Process Control and Environmental Engineering. During my undergraduate studies I undertook a six month placement at the Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nürnberg, Germany where I worked as a research assistant in the field of the synthesis of MFI membranes.

Subsequently, I embarked on an MSc in Industrial Process Engineering in the Complutense University of Madrid, Spain. There I worked as a research assistant on the synthesis of FAMEs (Fatty Acid Methyl Esters) in supercritical CO2 using enzymatic catalysts.

Supervisor:

Dr James McGregor

Presentations:

  • Oral communication entitled Synthesis of biodiesel from microalgae model oil and methyl acetate in ScCO2 in the international congress ICCE ANQUE in Sevilla, Spain, June 2012.
  • Poster with the title Process intensification by solubilization in the production of FAMES from microalgal model oil in the international congress ICCE ANQUE in Sevilla, Spain, June 2012.

Research interests

In February 2013 I started my PhD in Chemical Engineering at the University of Sheffield under the supervision of Dr. James McGregor. My project is focused on the conversion of waste materials into value-added chemicals, investigating novel routes to the catalytic conversion of waste materials such as biological waste, plastics and CO2, thereby providing alternative feedstocks to conventional fossil fuels.
