Email: e.court@sheffield.ac.uk In 2008 I came to study at the University of Sheffield towards my undergraduate MBiolSci degree in Biochemistry and Microbiology at the department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology which I achieved in 2012. I loved both the city and the University and so decided to stay here to study towards my PhD in synthetic biology, an area which really interested me. I am currently a first year PhD student studying as a part of a cross departmental synthetic biology network with Prof Catherine Biggs in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering and Dr. Stuart Hunt in the School of Clinical Dentistry. |

Research interests: Currently, when the water industry want to investigate whether the water we drink has been contaminated, the methods used can take days, requiring water samples to be sent to a laboratory which may delay any action needed to be taken. The aim of my project is to develop a biosensor to detect bacterial signalling molecules in drinking water with the aim of producing a system which will be cheap and easy to use whilst decreasing the time it takes to detect the presence of pathogens in drinking water to a matter of hours. |
