Biography

I graduated from The University of Warwick in 2009 with a 1st class MChem degree in Chemistry with Industrial Training. As part of my degree I undertook a year’s placement at the pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca in their Process Chemistry department where I worked on optimisation of synthetic routes to product APIs.

After graduating I worked for 3M as a pharmaceutical QC analyst before joining the E-Futures Doctoral Training Centre at the University of Sheffield. Through the DTC I have enhanced my knowledge of renewable energy generation and am particularly interested in the development of sustainable liquid fuels and waste management. I am now pursuing a PhD in the Chemical and Biological Engineering department.

Outside of academia I am involved in Girl Guiding as a unit helper at a Brownie group.

My research

I started my PhD project in September 2012 focused on the biological conversion of methane to methanol, under the supervision of Dr Stephen Wilkinson and Professor Will Zimmerman. The project utilises methane-oxidising bacteria for the biotransformation, and fluidic oscillator generated micro-bubbles to improve mass transfer of feedstocks and product removal.
