World Congress on Particle Technology 2010, Germany

Eight PhD students from the Particle Products Research Group (PPG) of Chemical and Process Engineering have just returned from Europe after attending the World Student Conference on Particle Technology 2010 in Delft, Holland and the World Congress on Particle Technology 2010 in Nuremberg, Germany.

James Osborne, World Congress 2010

Both events covered a wide range of particle technology material, including aerosol science and Nano-particles, however; it was the topics on Granulation, Models and Simulations and Material Science which were of particular interest to the group.

At the student conference, a keynote lecture was given by Professor M. J. Hounslow, Pro Vice Chancellor for Engineering at the University of Sheffield along with other leading Academics in the field. Ei Leen Chan presented her work on ‘Impeller Stress Characterisation for High Shear Granulation: Model Validation‘.

At the World Congress lectures were given by many of the PhD students covering aspects of their current work:

Kimiaki Washino - Simulation of liquid dispersion in powder beds using DEM-CIP coupling method

James Osborne - Binder Distribution: Comparison of Continuous and Batch Granulation Processes

Vikram Chouk - Effect of batch size on tablet properties

Robert Sochon - Numerical Analysis of Single Granule Tomography Data Sets

Bart Nitert - Evolution of moisture content distribution during fed-batch fluidized-bed drying

Ranjit Dhenge, World Congress 2010

Students also presented posters at the World Congress:

Ranjit Dhenge - Twin Screw Wet Granulation: Effect of Powder Feed Rate‘.

Ei Leen Chan, World Congress 2010

Ei Leen Chan - Impeller Stress Characterisation for High Shear Granulation: Model Validation

Congratulations to the students on their achievement of presenting at such a prestigious conference and upholding the reputation of the department.
