Jim Swithenbank receives Energy Systems Award

Prof. Jim Swithenbank

Professor Jim Swithenbank has received the Energy Systems Award 2006 from the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.

The Institute awarded this prize for Professor Swithenbank's extensive and pioneering contributions in combustion for clean energy utilization, mathematical modeling, and diagnostic tools development through sustained efforts in research, education and application.

Established in 1981, the Energy Systems Award is presented for a significant contribution in the broad field of energy systems, in particular for the application of engineering sciences and systems engineering in relation to the production, storage, distribution, and conservation of energy.

Professor Swithenbank is the Chairman of the Sheffield University Waste Incineration Centre (SUWIC) which won the American Society of Mechanical Engineers 2005 Pioneer Award.
