Jonathan Steps up in the world

Jonathan Kallemdjian

It is with pleasure that we can report on the outstanding success of another of our students.

Jonathan Kallemdjian, a 3rd Year BEng Chemical Engineering student, had an award winning summer this year with the Shell Step Programme.

Shell Step are an organisation that match up students willing to gain relevant engineering experience during their summer vacation with small or medium sized businesses who want students to work on a project at their site. Jonathan’s project was to produce a research proposal into renewable energy for Fenton UK, an electrical company based in Essex.

At the end of the project Jonathan and the other students on the Shell Step scheme had to present the findings of their projects to a panel of six judges from Shell Step. Jonathan’s presentation and final report was of such a high standard that he won a commendation award in the category of Economics and Business Research.

Jonathan said after his win “I think this is one of the best placement schemes out there, I have learnt so much during this summer about the business world and other skills. We were all well looked after by our Shell Step supervisors who we regularly updated on our progress. I would recommend that other students take advantage of the Shell Step programme next year”

Simon Butler, the Careers Liaison Officer for Chemical & Process Engineering, said “We are very proud of the achievements of our students and it is no surprise that Jonathan’s hard work has been recognised in this way. I would encourage all students to follow Jonathan’s example and make the most of your summer vacations”
