Ideas Space is a hit!

With building work finally complete the department is now able to make full use of the new space that is available. The Ideas Space is proving to be a huge hit, both with staff and students.

Festive Fun!

The informal opening of the new space was marked by a series of festive lunches for students. Each cohort was invited to come and socialise with friends as well as members of staff over pizza, cake and drinks. These events were very well attended and we plan to continue this tradition in the coming years.

Christmas Gathering

In addition to the student events, staff and postgraduate research students celebrated the opening with a Christmas party. A buffet lunch was provided and GRAND organised and ran a quiz and party games.

Heart of the Department

The Ideas Space is proving to be a huge hit with everyone. It provides a social venue for a variety of events, whilst also giving students space in which they can carry out group project work, hold study sessions or simply just sit and relax. It is truly the heart of the department.

In addition to the Ideas Space the new labs are now in use. These provide state of the art, high quality, research and teaching space which will be of benefit to both staff and students. The labs on B Floor also have glass windows which allow onlookers in the Ideas Space to view the activity within and get a feel for what goes on in a research lab on a day to day basis.

Final Phase

The final phase of the building project is the refurbishment of staff offices to the rear of the building. Work will begin shortly and it is anticipated that the Head of Department and other senior members of academic staff will move in by the end of March 2011.
