5th International Granulation Workshop
June 2011, Lausanne, Switzerland

Members of the Department’s Particle Products Group recently returned from Switzerland after co-organising and attending the 5th International Granulation Workshop, 20th - 22nd June 2011, which was hosted by Nestlè in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Opened by Stefan Palzer, Managing Director of the Product Technology Centre for Nestlè in York, who is also a Visiting Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, and with close to 250 attendees from all over the world, including industry and academia, the conference was a huge success.
After the conference Professor Mike Hounslow, Pro-Vice Chancellor for Engineering at the University of Sheffield, and invited plenary speaker to the conference said "It was a great pleasure to be able to attend the Workshop. Two things stood out for me:

- Sheffield has an internationally leading group on the science, art and engineering of granulation processes. The contributions from the PPG PhD students were a delight to see.
- Granulation as a multi-disciplinary, multi-industry research topic is going from strength to strength. The Workshop series that Agba Salman started with about 30 delegates a decade ago is now a successful international conference."
At the close of the conference Dr. Kate Pitt and Mr. James Osborne were presented with awards for their contribution to the organisation of the workshop.
