Microbubbles win Moulton Medal

A journal article written by five current and previous members of the Department of Chemical and Process Engineering has been selected to win a prestigious award.
The article entitled "On the design & simulation of an airlift loop bioreactor and microbubble generation by fluidic oscillation", authored by our own Professor Will Zimmerman and Dr Hemaka Bandulasena, along with Dr Buddhi Hewakandamby (a previous member of the Department), Professor V Tesar and Mr O Omotawa was published in Food and Bioproducts Processing, 2009.
The Institute for Chemical Engineers decision to award the Senior Moulton Medal, which is given to the best paper published by the Institution each year, to this paper was unanimous. The award medal will be presented to the victorious authors at the AGM meeting which takes place on the 26th May.

This is a tremendous achievement for the authors and the Department is incredibly proud of their work. The research into microbubbles being done within the department is in great demand and has many applications. It is very rewarding to see this being recognised.
Since being notified of his award, Professor Zimmerman has been in great demand by the media, giving interviews to Radio Sheffield as well as various newspapers and science magazines.
