On 9 July 2011, former graduates of the Faculty of Engineering (known as alumni) came to visit the university. Theywere given a tour of the Information Commons and the Students Union, and of course their own Departments. Afterwards they had a dinner in Mappin Hall, hosted by Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Mike Hounslow. |
We were pleased to welcome Eur Ing John Mulholland (BSc Tech Chemical Engineering, 1974), Dr Keith Pickersgill (PhD, 1962) and Jianchun Xin (MSc(Eng) Environmental and Energy Engineering, 2009). John Mulholland is Director and Training Manager of a large Energy Consultancy, NFES. Dr Keith Pickersgill has retired from an international career with senior executive positions at Unilever and Nestle. Jianchun Xin is also in energy management in Shanghai. |
The alumni were impressed with the Ideas Space and the laboratory facilities. They were also pleased to learn that despite the change in name, the Department was still strongly involved in energy-related teaching and research. |
They were delighted to note that the Red Deer public house was still there and serving student lunches, so finished the tour by buying a drink for academic staff member Dr Martin Pitt. |
