Our Work with Employers
The Careers Service enjoys links with a large number of employers. We have an experienced team that works to build and maintain relationships with organisations seeking to recruit Sheffield students and graduates, and are able to put University staff in touch with employers, through our extensive database of contacts.
Advertising vacancies
Our online vacancy handling system, myVacancies, promotes information about organisations and their opportunities to University of Sheffield students and graduates on behalf of around 4500 employers. The Careers Service also operates the Student Jobshop, which provides additional advertising for employers seeking students for part-time jobs, vacation work, placements and internships. We can provide log-in codes for staff wishing to view myVacancies.
Campus events and recruitment fairs
We provide a wide range of opportunities for employers to meet with students face-to-face through activities such as presentations, one-to-one sessions, applications workshops and occupational talks. Other employer-led activities are designed to help students develop their employability skills, such as the ‘Skills for Success’ programme and mock interview sessions. Our extensive programme of Recruitment Fairs allows employers to engage with our students and graduates either face-to-face at one of our campus-based events, or online at one of our virtual fairs.
Website contributions
We encourage employer contributions to our website e.g. by recording podcasts and videos about graduate jobs, the kinds of skills needed and how to develop and demonstrate these skills. Employers can also raise their campus profile by sponsoring Careers Service webpages, publications and activities.
Consultation work
We regularly advise organisations on the most appropriate recruitment strategies and the best ways of making contact with Sheffield students. We also assist employers interested in developing links with individual academic departments.
“I have always found the Careers Service at the University of Sheffield to be really pro-active in building relations with employers and committed to providing ways in which students and employers can interact, such as mock interviews and skills sessions”. The Co-operative Group
